Hellishly Good Theatre
Reviving a Tradition Born in Provincetown…
Inspired by theatrical endeavors of Eugene O’Neill, Susan Glaspell, and the rest of the Provincetown Players, we are a collaboration of playwrights and theater enthusiasts who have banded together to produce plays that originate from the people of Cape Cod.
Original performance of Susan Glaspell’s “Trifles,” with Marjorie Vonnegut, Elinor M. Cox, John King, Arthur E. Hohl, and T.W. Gibson, from The Theatre, Jan. 1917.

Full Productions of Cape Cod Plays…
While Cape Cod is jam-packed with theatre companies and venues, surprisingly few offer full productions of home-grown plays.
Helltown Players goes beyond readings, workshops, and writing labs for new plays. We are committed to developing scripts written by Cape Cod playwrights and presenting them as fully realized theatrical productions.
Our mission is to break the reading / workshop purgatory in which many worthy plays are trapped and bring them to life on stage in front of rapt audiences.

We Are the Trustees of the Helltown Players…
The Puritans called Provincetown “Helltown” because they regarded it as a wicked, outlaw community beyond their narrow-minded influence.
We think it is an excellent moniker for a group of Cape Cod playwrights and theatre professionals who want to do things their way - write the plays they want to write, help local playwrights realize their own creative visions, work with theatrical artists they want to collaborate with, and produce the plays by Cape Cod playwrights that they feel must be performed.
We are the Helltown Players.
