Three Trustee Plays Named Kaplan Finalists
Helltown Players is proud to announce that three of our Trustees have been named finalists in the 2023 Kaplan Playwriting Prize - Margaret Van Sant, Lynda Sturner, and Jim Dalglish.
As part of the contest, each of the play is offered a public reading and talkback to give the playwrights the opportunity to polish their scripts before they are submitted for a final review. These readings are free to the public. Please join us and provide your valuable insight to help these plays reach their full potential.
The Kaplan Prize is administered by Eventide Theatre Company in Dennis, MA.

“Portraiture” by Margaret Van Sant
What woman had the greatest impact on American arts? Gertrude Stein, Mabel Dodge Luhan both claim the title in this humorous look at the past, but Alice B. Toklas want to change history when the women are interviewed. The play examines the jealousy, attraction, and competition between Mabel Dodge Luhan, Gertrude Stein, and Alice B. Toklas as they are interviewed by a journalist.

The story of an endless search to find one’s identify. An identity that has been obscured by adoption and lies.
The play, a personal account from the playwright’s life, follows her journey after her life is turned upside by a DNA test.
